Team Farrans recently welcomed a host of visitors to site at Altnagelvin, in conjunction with CIOB Novus, showcasing the major redevelopment works underway on the North Block which is contained within the heart of the hospital.
The event took place last week and was organised through the CIOB Novus Belfast Hub, drawing an excellent turnout of delegates to site.
Some of those included students from North West Regional College and Letterkenny Institute of Technology, as well as members of CIOB.
Proceedings kicked off with a presentation from Farrans Contracts Manager, Glenn Gilmore, who gave a comprehensive overview of the project and described the key challenges the team has encountered - particularly the constraints associated with working within such an enclosed environment.
Glenn also detailed the various measures and innovations which have been employed on the healthcare site, before answering a range of questions from the visitors.
The assembled group was then split in two before a site tour, during which the visitors were delighted to see all elements of the job for themselves, including complex M&E components and the innovative use of digital technology to identify defects and carry out sign-offs on-site.
The Altnagelvin North Wing Redevelopment project will see Farrans provide around 14,000m2 of new inpatient ward accommodation, spread across 3 storeys.
It is due to be completed at the end of 2019.
