The Storey’s Field Community Centre and Nursery in Cambridge completed a hat-trick of awards at last night’s RIBA Awards - including clinching the title for RIBA East Building of the Year 2018.
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Awards have been celebrating outstanding work across the UK for more than 180 years.
The judges chose the Farrans-built Storey's Field Centre as the winner within both the 2018 East Award and Sustainability Award categories, before announcing that the state-of-the-art project had claimed the Building of the Year Award, triumphing against the 10 other finalists.
The Storey’s Field Community Centre and Nursery project has been completed on behalf of the University of Cambridge. It has been widely praised for its creation of an elegant, functional community hub, bringing together a spacious hall, café and leisure areas with a high-standard nursery and recreational space.
The Nursery and Community Centre have both been assessed for Environmental Sustainability in line with BREEAM methodology and are on track to be certified ‘Excellent’ and ‘Outstanding’ respectively.
Those involved in the project have expressed their delight at last night’s success.
Farrans Contracts Manager, Philip Browne, has congratulated the efforts of the site team and all associated contractors, describing the Cambridge site as a “really fantastic project”.
